International Juried Photography Exhibition

THE ABSTRACT IMAGE

Notification Deadline: Dec 23, 11:59PM CT
Exhibition Dates: Jan 17 - Feb 14, 2026

The Abstract Image presents photographic work that moves away from literal representation and toward form, perception, and visual structure. Rather than describing the world as it appears, the photographs explore abstraction as a way of seeing—emerging through color, light, shadow, texture, shape, and line. Attention shifts from recognizable subjects to the formal qualities of the photographic image itself, emphasizing surface, composition, and visual relationships. Meaning arises not through depiction, but through how images are constructed and experienced.

Together, the works invite viewers to engage photography as both a perceptual and conceptual medium—one that operates through intuition, ambiguity, and formal inquiry. The exhibition brings together a range of lens-based approaches that demonstrate how abstraction continues to expand the expressive possibilities of photography. Juried by the Praxis Directors.
