NARRATIVES ~
FIGMENTS & FRAGMENTS
Opening Night Reception: Saturday Jan 15th 6-8pm
Exhibition Dates: Jan 15th - 29th, 2022
Guest Curator | Emma Powell
The photograph’s power as a narrative tool is derived from the impression that what is captured within the frame is an accurate representation of what actually occurred at a specific moment in time. As complete or comprehensive as any narrative may appear to be, it will always be subject to a process of including some elements and excluding others. These inclusions and exclusion are a crucial part of what photographic storytelling is all about - What is being presented within the frame to the viewer – and what is being left out or left to the viewer’s imagination.
Praxis Gallery presents photographic works that explore the development of visual narratives through the still image. Stories may take any shape or form; they may be literal or fantasy, documentary or fiction; complex or minimal.

International Juried Photography Exhibition
THE PORTRAIT
Opening Night Reception: May 23, 6–8 PM, 2026
Exhibition Dates: May 23 - June 13, 2026
A portrait begins with attention—an act of looking, and of being looked at. Each image holds a tension between appearance and interior life. A face, posture, gesture, or setting may suggest clarity, but also carries ambiguity. Some portraits are direct and documentary; others are constructed, performative, or conceptual. They may reveal intimacy or explore distance, anonymity, and self-invention.
To make a portrait is to engage another presence—or to turn the camera toward oneself—and consider how identity is shaped, expressed, withheld, or transformed within the frame.
Praxis Gallery presents photographic portraits that examine the depth and complexity of the human subject. The exhibition features work reflecting lived experience, psychological presence, cultural context, and formal exploration through the lens. Juried by Elizabeth Flinsch.

ANIMAL LIFE
Opening Night Reception: May 23, 6–8 PM, 2026
Exhibition Dates: May 23 - June 13, 2026
From companion animals and farm creatures to insects, birds, sea life, and wildlife in their natural habitats, Animal Life brings together photographic work that honors the complexity, beauty, and individuality of animals across species and environments.
Artists approached their subjects with curiosity, empathy, and imagination. Through quiet observation, environmental portraiture, documentary approaches, and experimental interpretations, the exhibition presents diverse perspectives on how humans encounter and represent the living world.
Across species and settings, these photographs invite viewers to look more closely and consider the shared environments and relationships that shape life on this planet. All lens-based work is included. Curated by Praxis Directors.

MULTI - EXPOSED
Opening Night Reception: April 18, 6–8 PM
Exhibition dates: Apr 18–May 16, 2026
Multi-Exposed presents the creative possibilities of multiple exposures in photographic practice. Created in-camera or constructed through digital processes, these images combine moments, spaces, gestures, and perspectives within a single frame.
From subtle shifts in position to complex overlays of form and meaning, the works expand how time is represented, how identity is examined, and how place is interpreted. Artists approach the theme both formally—through structure, rhythm, and visual repetition—and conceptually—through memory, perception, movement, and narrative layering. The exhibition brings together lens-based work ranging from minimal and restrained to intricate and immersive.

BALANCE / REPETITION / DISRUPTION
Opening Night Reception: April 18, 6–8 PM, 2026
Exhibition Dates: April 18 - May 9, 2026
COMPOSED
Balance, repetition, and disruption shape how images take form through compositional decisions and visual relationships. These elements function not as steps, but as interacting conditions. An image may begin in equilibrium or fracture it immediately; repetition may stabilize form or reveal instability; disruption may interrupt order or expose patterns already present.
The photographs in this exhibition engage these ideas in different ways. Some emphasize clarity and restraint, while others explore accumulation, variation, or rupture. Subject matter varies widely, but each work considers how form, space, rhythm, and visual weight operate within the frame. Together, the works approach composition as an exploratory process, testing how images hold together, repeat themselves, or come undone

DIPTYCH~OPEN THEME
Opening Night Reception: Mar 21, 6 - 9 PM
Exhibition dates: Mar 21 - Apr 11, 2026
A photographic diptych pairs two images side by side—creating a visual conversation across space, time, or meaning. The diptych format invites artists to explore balance, tension, narrative, and contrast. It can unite opposites, mirror similarities, or reveal subtle relationships through juxtaposition.
Praxis Gallery presents a selection of photographic diptychs exploring a wide range of themes and approaches. Each work brings two images together within a single frame or presentation, forming a unified visual statement. The exhibition highlights how pairing images can expand interpretation, deepen narrative, and generate resonance through dialogue.

NUMBERS, SYMBOLS & LETTERS
Opening Reception: Mar 21, 6–8PM
Exhibition dates: Mar 21 - Apr 11, 2026
Numbers, symbols, and letters move through daily life as systems of order, instruction, measurement, and belief. In this exhibition, juried by Dallas Crow, these familiar characters are released from their intended functions and encountered as visual form. Detached from language, they shift from carriers of information into shape, interval, repetition, and surface.
The selected works frame, isolate, interrupt, and recombine characters drawn from signage, architecture, printed matter, and found environments. Some are deliberately composed; others arise through chance discovery. Across approaches, emphasis rests on organization, rhythm, scale, and spatial relationships rather than readability. Meaning emerges not from what characters say, but from how they behave once freed from the work of saying.
