International Juried Photography Exhibition

MAKING STRANGE

Opening Night: To Be Announced
Exhibit Dates: Sept 19th - Oct 13th 2020

Juror | Douglas Beasley

How do we document what happens and recurs everyday: the banal, the common, the ordinary? Can we rescue astonishment from the forgotten obvious by finding unexplored perspectives to depict our common places and familiar activities in startling and engrossing new ways?

Praxis Gallery presents photographic works that search for the iconic and ironic in the everyday world around us; that portray the people, places and things which have become ordinary to us in new, imaginative and expressive ways.

Even in Darkness,

There is Light

A Solo Exhibition by Brandon Movall
Opening Night Reception: October 24th,2020
Exhibition Dates: Oct 24th - Nov 16th, 2020

Brandon's capacity to see the world as an engineer and as a self-taught photographer brings a unique sense of style and imagination to every image he captures. Brandon’s work is only limited by nighttime, but he encompasses a variety of themes and techniques in his work, including urban photography, landscape photography, astrophotography, and light painting. This unique balance of engineering and art has led to Brandon’s work being featured in a variety of solo and juried exhibitions around the world, including at Artios Gallery in New York, NY, the Midwest Center of Photography in Wichita, KS, and the Glasgow Gallery of Photography in Glasgow, UK.

I am an architect, with a masters in sociology and PhD in urban geography. I am considered as a social photographer. My photos are a look at someone’s world, a journey into their space and their life; an attempt to build a story without affection, as part of a social commitment. I present different visual stories that intersect in the streets and in their plurality create a certain connection.

I want to build visual bridges that bring closer different people, places and words, in an attempt to unite and integrate through symbolism, imagery and space. The essence of parks, markets, religious celebrations, city functions, and movements of people, all reflect a way of being that after all have too many similarities and points in common in many parts of the world. I hope these images arouse more suspicions than certainties in a way that is possible to speculate with them to open paths of contrasting narratives.
